Parametric solitons in two-dimensional lattices of purely nonlinear origin.
We demonstrate spatial solitons via twin-beam second-harmonic generation in hexagonal lattices realized by poling lithium niobate planar waveguides. These simultons can be steered by acting on power, direction, and wavelength of the fundamental frequency input.

We address the existence and stability of two-dimensional solitons in optical or matter-wave media, which are supported by purely nonlinear lattices in the form of a periodic array of cylinders with self-focusing nonlinearity, embedded into a linear material. We show that such lattices can stabilize two-dimensional solitons against collapse. We also found that stable multipoles and vortex solit...
متن کاملNodal Two-Dimensional Solitons in Nonlinear Parametric Resonance
The parametrically driven damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation serves as an amplitude equation for a variety of resonantly forced oscillatory systems on the plane. In this note, we consider its nodal soliton solutions. We show that although the nodal solitons are stable against radially-symmetric perturbations for sufficiently large damping coefficients, they are always unstable to azimuthal p...
متن کاملStabilization mechanism for two-dimensional solitons in nonlinear parametric resonance
We consider a simple model system supporting stable solitons in two dimensions. The system is the parametrically driven damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation, and the soliton stabilises for sufficiently strong damping. The purpose of this note is to elucidate the stabilisation mechanism; we do this by reducing the partial differential equation to a finite-dimensional dynamical system. Our concl...
متن کاملInterface solitons in two-dimensional photonic lattices.
We analyze localization of light at the interfaces separating square and hexagonal photonic lattices, as recently realized experimentally for two-dimensional laser-written waveguides in silica glass with self-focusing nonlinearity [Opt. Lett.33, 663 (2008)]. We find the conditions for the existence of linear and nonlinear surface states substantially influenced by the lattice topology, and stud...
